Overview:
Welcome! I’m Scruffles, and I have a story to tell.

Embark on a journey of recovery (or ruin) and self-discovery as you join Daine, a horribly damaged man that is just discovering what it actually means to live.

Along the way of him living his new lease on life, he meets many attractive women (and some excellent bros) that will each have an important impact on his life in ways that he would never expect, as he does the same to them.

Of course, not everything is as it seems as there are many players out there, both in the Plane of the Mundane and the supernatural, pushing and prodding him down the gentle stream of fate. One of these players is you, the Hand of Fate.

As the Hand of Fate, you will help guild Daine through his daily life, choosing where he goes, and what girls he’ll visit to increase their affections towards him. Along the way, you’ll get to know their own stories and histories while the world’s dramas and mysteries unravel around you (much to Daine’s unfortunate disdain).

If you’re lucky, he may even be able to hold their hand, you filthy degenerates.

(Please note: This game is story-focused, regularly touching topics of mental health and sensitive/disturbing content. Lewds aren’t the goal, but rather a tool.)

  • Change made to Rose’s and Zeke’s weekday club hangout. Before, both would be available during the week. This has been changed to match the narrative, and they no longer work at The Hideout during the week.
  • Made adjustments to the History screen so that the lines of dialogue aren’t spread so far apart.
  • The sandbox portions now have dedicated Back buttons so you don’t have to scroll back!
  • Temporarily removed Zeke’s Jam Session in order to prevent an avoidable crash. It will be put back in when I finally having it running correctly.

  • Expanded on the event hints to include hints for events that play after other events. Now all character events have hints.

  • Temporarily removed some unused files that were causing a boot error on Macs.
  • Some minor grammatical errors fixed
  • Some minor bug fixes

v0.10.0- Public release!

NOTE ON STARTING UP THE NEW UPDATE! If you saved on the Chapter 1 End screen, please scroll back into the prior event once you load then proceed as usual.

If you took my advice and saved before the Chapter 1 End screen, then this does not apply to you.

  • 3 Main Events
  • 1 Lupe Event
  • 3 Erin Events
  • 3 Generic Events
  • 14, 346 Words
  • 580 Renders
  • 1 new song
  • Converted a few event images from PNG to WebP that were missed in a previous update, and converted a few Wav files to MP3, shaving a couple hundred MB of space off the game.
  • Some minor grammatical errors fixed
  • Some minor bug fixes
  • New COMPRESSED PC and Mac builds. Visually not as great, but if you’re lacking in hard drive space, or have poor internet connection, they’re a fine alternative as they are under 1GB, as opposed to the SUPER BEEFY regular versions of the game. NOTE ON THE COMPRESSED MAC BUILD: I don’t have a Mac, so like the full size Mac build, it is untested.

v0.9.1- Public release!

JUST A NOTE FOR THE END OF THIS UPDATE: This update ends on the (final) cliffhanger of this chain of events. Unlike the previous update, it ends on an automatic infinite loop.

If saved on that screen, you will get an error upon loading it again warning of an infinite loop. Just hit ignore to go back to the end screen, as it should resolve itself in the next update.

That said, I do suggest a quick scroll back and save just before that screen just in case. I am a noob coder and therefore am, by no means, an expert in these things.

  • 3 Main Events
  • 1 drēm Event
  • 10, 183 Words
  • 599 Renders
  • 18 Animations
  • 4 new songs
  • THEM PESKY CAPITALISATIONS FOLLOWING ELLIPSES HAVE BEEN FIXED. The ones that didn’t make sense, anyway. One of my players were kind enough to compile an entire list of them for me, and I have managed to chunk all of the ones that were gross and grammatically incorrect out.
  • Some minor grammatical errors fixed
  • Some minor bug fixes
  • Finally updated the Shout Outs screen.

v0.8.0- Public release!

  • 5 Main Events
  • 1 Bishop Event
  • 1 Lewd Event
  • 14, 225 Words
  • 705 Renders
  • 4 new songs
  • Event replays now have options at the beginning of the replay to trigger flags that effect changes in the event. This only affects events that have flags in them.
  • Fixed a couple of event replays that didn’t have music to play, as they used the same song in the previous event. These events now have songs that play in them in replays.
  • Some minor grammatical errors fixed
  • Some minor bug fixes
  • Started the process of reworking Zeke’s Jam Session. The old one is still available, as the new one is currently WiP.

v0.7.1- Public release!

ANDROID NOTE: I accidentally forgot to resize the main menu background before having it ported to Android, so Android users get a lovely corner of the BG! Yay! No other issues otherwise.

  • 3 Main Events
  • 2 Sam Events
  • 2 Rose Events
  • 2 Jessica Events
  • 2 Audrey Events
  • 1 Lewd Event
  • 24, 957 Words
  • 995 Renders
  • 7 new songs
  • Added MOAR HINTS in all Character Events screens to hopefully alleviate the sandbox fatigue. Now you know when(ish) events can be triggered. Beside the event title, there will be a written indicator in brackets like this: (Weekday/Weekend/*Specific Day of the Week*).
  • Fixed Requirements for Main Event ‘Desperation’. Hints said Rose Event ‘The Octave of Ambience’, but wouldn’t start until after Rose Event ‘Intelligence Gig’ instead. This has been fixed.
  • Fixed Audrey’s call hangout options. The repeatable lewd option was showing up if you didn’t choose the lewd option in the Audrey Event “Generic Porn Plot”
  • Some minor grammatical errors fixed
  • Some minor bug fixes

v0.6.1- Public release!

ANDROID NOTE: The official Android version IS coming, but will be available on a later date. Apologies for any inconveniences.

Also, as per the poll results, 0.7.0 will be delayed a month (please refer to this post for more information). Kinda crappy, but the possibility of having much more content in one bigger bundle rather than a much smaller update for this month seemed to be the general consensus. If you haven’t joined my discord yet, please consider doing so as there’s a channel there that I keep updated as I progress through development for any given months update!

Changelog:

  • 2 Main Events
  • 2 Madison Events
  • 2 Lupe Events
  • 1 Generic Events
  • 12,740 Words
  • 464 Renders
  • 2 new songs
  • Some minor grammatical errors fixed

v0.5.1- Public release!

  • 1 Main Event
  • 2 Anne Events
  • 2 Bishop Events
  • 2 Hanako Events
  • 2 Generic Events
  • 2 Lewd Events
  • 1 Repeatable Lewd Event
  • 16,311 Words
  • 366 Renders
  • 2 new songs
  • A ton of grammatical, consistency, and other errors fixed.
  • An ‘Eternal Weekday’ glitch following Jessica’s event ‘Bilateral Woes’ if started on a weekday was fixed.

v0.4.2 – Public release!

  • 4 Main Events
  • 1 ???? Event
  • 2 Zeke Events
  • 5 Generic Events
  • Zeke’s ‘The Hideout’ generic is now playable after the event ‘I Like You’, in tandem with Rose’s.
  • 14, 485 Words
  • 534 Renders
  • 4 new songs
  • Reworked event colours for QoL reasons
  • Green is for events triggered by calls. The other colours remain the same (Purple = lewd with choice, Red = lewd without choice/Lewd choice made in Purple Event, and Blue = Non-lewd choice made in Purple Event).
  • In the event that a call event leads to lewds, Green takes priority.
  • Also, because I am a liar and it was requested, there is now an additional explanation for all of this in my in-game blurb at the beginning of the sandbox.
  • Added in scroll bars for events and hints for easier navigation.
  • Fixed Rose’s Bar generic event render to the correct one. Previously had Lupe’s.
  • Daine no longer steals Hanako’s line in the ‘Courtesy Rounds’ event.
  • New songs have not been added to Zeke’s Jam Session. For whatever reason, it crashes when I add them, so I will hopefully have that figured out by 0.5.0.
  • Fixed the Back button in Audrey’s Lewd screen

v0.3.0 – Public release!

  • 3 Rose Events
  • 3 Audrey Events
  • 4 Generic Events
  • 1 Lewd Event
  • 1 Repeatable Lewd Generic Event
  • 13,120 Words
  • 370 Renders
  • 3 Animations
  • 5 new songs
  • NEW! Jam Session option in the Main Menu brings you to ‘Zeke’s Jam Session’, the Jukebox of Detached! Listen to the OST without using any of those pesky media applications! (I still use Winamp though because I’m stuck in the mid 2000s apparently)
  • Added in a checklist in a character’s event screen for any locations that have requirements for them to show up (IE, Mall) because QoL. When a requirement is met, the corresponding part of the list disappears to remove unnecessary clutter.
  • Added in a little bit of extra information regarding finding Main/Character Events and Hints in my blurb when first being introduced to the pseudo sandbox. (You can find character-specific events screen in their respective menus).
  • A character’s lewd events are now colour coded. There will be no hints for this in the game.
  • Mostly figured out the reason for the rough phone transition. Mostly. Now I’m having an issue with previous messages carrying over to new messages, so ignore that part for now. Will be fixed in a future update.

v0.2.1 – Public release!

  • New original Main Menu song, ‘Nothing and Everything’ by Ann Xne!
  • 3 New Characters
  • 7 Main Events
  • 14,438Words
  • 710 Renders
  • 4 additional new songs
  • Mac build! No idea how to troubleshoot problems, so play at your own risk! The usual screenshot error screens/reporting issues to me so I can try and fix them still applies!
  • Can now cycle through the individual characters’ menus within their respective groups without pressing back or closing the menu
  • Added ‘Back’ buttons to many screens for easier menu navigation
  • Moved ‘Back’ button to the upper right corner under the ‘day’ frame on all screens with the button
  • Can now name your saves (Thanks to BadMustard on Itch for this code).
  • Phone system partially implemented (Thanks to Nighten on Itch for the code and UI) – Has some visual issues that need to be figured out, and I eventually want to lead into using it as a contacts list for calling the girls once I piece together out how to.
  • New “Support Detached” choice in the Menu brings you to a Linktree page with all of my socials and Patreon/SubscribeStar to clean up the menu from unnecessary and ugly clutter (plays nicer on Android phones now too if I decide to go that route again).
  • New “Shout Out” choice in the Menu for the “Your Name in My Game” Patreon/SubscribeStar tier perk.
  • Fixed code to make sure old saves work without crashing because of new variables added (I’m still largely learning Ren’Py and this has been a struggle that I’m glad is fixed.)
  • Added missing music to one of Hanako’s generics
  • A few grammar and visual fixes in 0.1.0 and 0.2.0 content
  • Fixed a bug that made it so that the Mall only appeared at 10 Jessica affection, no more and no less. It now appears with 10 or more Jessica affection, and the necessary Jessica event being complete.

v0.1.0 – First release!

Welcome to the first build of Detached!
It’s a nearly year long project finally come to fruition, and I’m happy to be able to share it with the world. Because I wanted to go in with a bang, it’s a BIG release.
I hope you enjoy the story that I’m weaving!

  • 51,214 Words
  • 1,507 Renders
  • 7 Initial Waifus
  • 11 Main Events
  • 1 ???? Event
  • 3 Character Events per Waifu
  • 1 Depravity Event

Developer Notes:

Detached is a project that I never thought would ever be conjured up by me.

I’ve been into writing and drawing since elementary school, often drawing comics, writing short stories, and being on roleplaying forums. These were basically all staples of mine all through school.

A particular genre I’ve always been fascinated by is Fantasy. A dream of mine is authoring a series of Military Dark Fantasy novels based on a long running roleplay rich with lore I had amongst a group of friends through middle school. Something I actually started, but unfortunately sits shelved for the time being.

No matter what I’m doing though, whether it’s focusing on my art or my novel, I usually end up finding writing prompts and just throwing out a quick mini story here and there, or texting my friends with absurd imagery through words, all of which usually sit of the line of insanity and horror.

But then, I saw that there are people that genuinely enjoy absurdist existential content like that. I’ve come across other games that aren’t afraid to tickle that horrible little corner of heavy story telling, that aren’t afraid to play with your emotions like some kind of sick and twisted pervert, that aren’t afraid to write a story that makes you feel conflicted on how you should feel about ejoying your time reading it.

So I thought, “Why not try and make something with this weird writing style I use to meme on people?”

And thus began a project that I never thought I would make, and would never have thought in a million years that I’d make it as far as I have..
